Trees of Chillingham Autumn Walk – 31st October

Following the popularity of our Trees of Chillingham walk in May, Park Manager Angus Collingwood-Cameron will be leading another special guided walk through Chillingham Park – this time in the heart of autumn.

Since its creation in 1350, Chillingham Park has been home to a remarkable collection of trees, from ancient native woodland and veteran oaks to exotic 19th-century landscape plantings. Centuries of management – and sometimes a complete lack of it – have created the wonderfully varied treescape we see today.

This three-hour walk will venture into some of the far-flung corners of the park, visiting magnificent oaks, ancient pollards, unusual species and some of Chillingham’s most impressive veteran trees.

Autumn should make this walk particularly special. By the end of October, the park will be transformed by autumn colour, giving us the chance to see its trees and landscape in a completely different season.

What to Expect

• A 3-hour guided walk with Park Manager Angus Collingwood-Cameron
• Access to areas not normally open to visitors
• Ancient, veteran and unusual trees from across the park
• Chillingham in its autumn colours
• Insights into how the trees and wider landscape have been managed over the centuries
• Plenty of time to stop, look and ask questions along the way

Practical Information

Terrain: Uneven ground throughout, including slopes and rough paths. A reasonable level of fitness is needed.

What to bring:

• A packed lunch – we’ll stop along the way
• Sturdy, waterproof footwear
• Warm, weather-appropriate clothing
• Binoculars if you have them
