New Additions

Five new calves have arrived so far this year.

It is proof of their toughness that only one has succumbed to the weather, which has been foul this winter.

At last there are signs of improvement in the weather but we are still feeding hay.

Normally the cattle stop eating hay in mid-March when a bit of new grass pops up. The livestock farmers round here are praying for a bit of warm weather to encourage the grass to grow.

Grass makes milk and milk makes calves grow. Nothing that man has made can better it.

In North Northumberland, we have escaped the worst of the snow drifts that have beset other parts of the country. We all hope that those affected will dust themselves off as best they can and crack on with providing food for the nation.
