Tough Winter!

This has been a tough winter for all those who look after livestock and it certainly has been for Ellie and Duncan! Just when they thought winter was over, along came the “Beast from the East”, filling the roads and making life very difficult for everybody and everything.

We had drifts over 2m deep and the windchill did not bear thinking about. Ellie is a migrant from the south (Dorset) and this was her first “proper” Northumbrian winter. At first, the deep snow was an exciting novelty, but that soon wore off.

Despite the drifts, Ellie and Duncan were able to get to feed the cattle on every day bar one. Luckily we had plenty of hay as fodder prices have rocketed but we will soon need to restock.

Thank goodness spring is finally here.
