The Cuckoos are Back!

Not all that long ago, the call of the Cuckoo was common place across the country and was very much part of the British spring. Sadly, Cuckoo numbers have decreased in many areas and now the enigmatic call of the Cuckoo is a rare treat.

Happily, the ancient Park at Chillingham, with its varied woodland habitat, still attracts Cuckoos every spring. They have now arrived at Chillingham and the Cuckoo call can be heard every day.

So do come and visit to hear the call of these extraordinary birds. If you are very lucky, you may even see one. But dont delay, they will not be with us for long. In a only a short time, they will mate and lay their eggs uninvited and slip away, like thieves in the night, en route back to Africa.
