LADY CORISANDE VISITS THE WILD CATTLE

At the recent AGM of the Chillingham Wild Cattle Association, Charles Bain-Smith was elected Chairman of the Association. This event was witnessed by his Mother who had traveled from Kent for the occasion. That is hardly an extraordinary event, except that his Mother is Lady Corisande Bain Smith (Ne Bennett), daughter of the 8th Earl of Tankerville and Violet, Countess of Tankerville.

Lady Corisande is one of the longest standing Members of the Association. She spent the early part of her life at the Estate House in Chillingham. The period included the Second World War when the Castle was occupied by the British Army. She has maintained a keen interest in Chillingham and its Cattle throughout her life and we were delighted to welcome her to the AGM and the Park.

To mark the occasion, she provided a wonderful climbing rose, which she planted between the Pavilion and the Church. The rose is a Madamme Alfred Carriere, which shoul grow vigorously and create a striking display. Ellie and the Team have been busy watering it to give it a good start.
