At Chillingham, the Cattle Park becomes the classroom.

From exploring habitats and food webs to developing map skills, observing wildlife, and building confidence outdoors, our educational visits bring classroom learning to life through real-world experiences. Set within one of Britain’s most unique landscapes and home to the world-famous Chillingham Wild Cattle, our park provides a truly memorable setting for outdoor learning.

We offer curriculum-linked educational visits for schools, nurseries, home-education groups, colleges and youth organisations. Whether you’re looking for a one-off visit, a regular programme of sessions, or a bespoke learning experience, our experienced wardens can create a visit tailored to your group’s needs.

Early Years (Ages 2–5)

Introduce young learners to the wonders of nature in Wildling Woods, our dedicated forest learning area.

Through outdoor play, exploration and sensory activities, children develop confidence, communication skills, physical coordination and a connection with the natural world. Sessions are child-led, hands-on and designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and discovery.

Primary Schools (Ages 5–11)

Bring learning to life with a visit to Chillingham Wild Cattle Park.

Our primary school sessions link to the KS1 and KS2 curriculum through exciting outdoor activities including habitat surveys, wildlife identification, map and compass work, food chains, forest-school skills and opportunities to observe the famous Chillingham Wild Cattle in their natural environment.

Children learn by doing, exploring and asking questions, creating lasting memories alongside valuable curriculum learning.

Secondary Schools (Ages 11–14)

Students can investigate biodiversity, ecosystems, genetics, inheritance, adaptation and environmental management through fieldwork and observation. The unique Chillingham Wild Cattle herd provides a fascinating real-world case study for a range of science and geography topics.

Visits are designed to encourage deeper understanding of ecological principles.

Home Education Groups

We warmly welcome home-educating families and groups to Chillingham.

Our flexible approach allows us to create engaging outdoor learning experiences for mixed-age groups, covering everything from ecology and fieldwork skills to forest-school activities, wildlife studies and practical outdoor skills.

Practical Conservation Activities

For older students, college groups, youth organisations and community groups, we can offer practical conservation experiences that make a real difference to the landscape.

Activities may include bracken management, habitat restoration, invasive species control, woodland management and other seasonal conservation tasks. Participants gain hands-on experience of countryside management while developing teamwork, problem-solving and practical skills.

These sessions provide an excellent opportunity to explore conservation careers, environmental stewardship and the challenges of managing habitats for wildlife.

Bespoke Educational Visits

No two groups are the same.

We work closely with teachers, tutors and group leaders to create bespoke visits tailored to your learning objectives, interests and age range. Whether you’re studying biodiversity, animal behaviour, habitats, geography, conservation, outdoor learning or something entirely different, we’ll help design a visit that meets your needs.

Plan Your Visit

We offer half-day and full-day visits, with facilities including toilets, handwashing stations, lunch space and sheltered areas.

Many educational visits are currently available free of charge thanks to external funding, with schools only needing to arrange transport. Availability and funding may vary depending on group type and programme.
