Back in November, Robson Green and Si King, he of the Hairy Bikers, spent a morning filming the Chillingham Wild Cattle in their magnificent Park. They were filming for Robson's new series: "Robson Green's Weekend Escapes." In each episode, Robson and a celebrity guest, spend a weekend seeing and doing the less usual things in the North East. The series [...]

With autumn now upon us, the fungi season is now in full swing. There has long been a policy of allowing fallen timber to remain in situ in the Park, so providing a great habitat for fungi and insects. This, coupled with 300 acres of low input grassland with low intensity grazing, provides a perfect habitat for fungi to thrive. [...]

Professor Stephen Hall has been involved at Chillingham for almost 50 years and nobody knows more about the Wild Cattle and their Park than Stephen. He will be at Chillingham on 5th October to conduct a special long walking tour of the Park, beginning at 10.30. The tour will take in parts of the Park rarely seen by visitors and [...]

The Chillingham Wild Cattle Association is deeply saddened by the news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen. We could not do justice in words how much The Queen has meant to people in this country and around the world.  Her Majesty's leadership and integrity have been sources of pride and inspiration for generations of people throughout the world. [...]

Please be aware that the road immediately to the south of Chillingham is due to be closed for roadworks for 3 days in early September. If you are coming to see us from the Alnwick/Eglingham direction, please be aware that you may need to take a short diversion to reach Chillingham, so please do allow a few more minutes. We [...]

We are always keen to welcome researchers to Chillingham Park and it is used for research projects on an almost continuous basis. The most recent project was carried out by Newcastle University and was looking into agro-forestry. Depicted is a sensor, which measured wind speed, temperature and a few other things too! They were placed in the open and in [...]

On Monday 8th August, we were delighted to welcome 52 displaced Ukrainians to the Chillingham Cattle Park. We were first asked to welcome 15 Ukrainians who had been settled in the Rothbury area. This contact came about via Kim Stewart who is one of the Pavilion team. They wished to view the cattle after visiting Chillingham Castle as guests of [...]

There have been quite a few blog posts showing the view of the outside of the pavilion in its various stages of completeness. So now a view looking out from the Pavilion, showing some of the lovely timber work, the Church to the left and the sun drenched picnic tables. The one advantage of Storm Arwen is that the destruction [...]

Now that the solstice has passed and we head to July, it is full summer in the Park. The grass is growing and the cattle are grazing hard, laying down fat for the winter to come. The cows, and bulls, are reaching peak condition and the next few months see peak mating activity. Although the cows calve all year round, [...]

Over the last week or so, we have had two strange noises in the Park, which are connected in a funny sort of way. The first was a necessary evil - the roar of chainsaws! Harpsichord wood, as pictured above, had its centre blown out by Storm Arwen and local contractors have been in clearing the windblown trees, which were [...]

We are now open for 2022. The new Pavilion will be open 9.30 - 3.30, seven days a week. There will be four tours of the Wild Cattle Park every day. Tours will depart at 10.00, 11.30, 1.45 and 3.15. It is advisable, but not essential, to book your tour on line on this website. Light refreshments and wild cattle [...]

We are busy trying to get everything sorted in order to welcome our first visitors on Good Friday, 15th April. There is plenty to sort out in the brand new Pavilion. We finally have a team of foresters and tree surgeons on site, clearing the debris caused by the winter storms. With great timing, the Council has decided to undertake [...]
